Retris — Complete rows with falling shapes
Retris is the row-clearing family. Fit solid-colored shapes into the board, fill every space in a horizontal row, and make room before the stack reaches the top.
Shape comes first
Colors help distinguish the pieces, but they do not control removal. A row clears when every playable position is occupied. Good placement keeps the surface open for several future silhouettes instead of solving only the current gap.
Several complete rows can disappear in one pass, including nonadjacent rows.
Standard and Crazy pieces
Normal and Relax choose uniformly from seven distinct four-block shapes. Each piece receives one of six colors, shared by every block in that piece. Rotation turns the full silhouette and is rejected when it collides.
Crazy adds four larger or less familiar shapes from the first piece, including a tall 2 × 4 box. Both Arcade and Classic support Normal, Relax and Crazy on the same 10 × 24 field.
Complete-row clearing
After a piece locks, every full row qualifies regardless of color. All qualifying rows disappear together. Everything above them shifts down by the number of removed rows beneath it while preserving the remaining arrangement.
Retris does not search for same-color lines. Three matching colors in a row do nothing unless the row itself becomes completely occupied.
In Arcade, each colored block on a new piece can carry one primary Arcade Special: Normal Bomb, Horizontal Bomb, Vertical Bomb, Lightning Bomb, Mega Bomb, Bomb Activator, or Stone Cover. It can also carry an Ice Cover. Only a completed row or a bomb supplies a strike; color matches alone still do nothing. Row scoring counts destroyed qualification groups, so a protected row can survive without receiving its ordinary award.
Normal Bomb reaches eight neighbors, Horizontal Bomb its occupied row, Vertical Bomb its occupied column, Lightning Bomb every block of its color, and Mega Bomb combines all four areas. Bomb generations resolve serially at 0.5-second intervals; each unique block destroyed only by a bomb adds 1 point. Bomb Activator disappears and triggers all settled bombs without a local blast. Stone Cover survives a completed row, stays fixed after settling as support and a column barrier, and can be destroyed only by a bomb.
The first strike on Ice Cover removes only the ice and cannot activate the covered special; a later bomb generation can hit the exposed block. Simultaneous activators are deduplicated, freshly thawed blocks remain anchored for that resolution, and final displacement waits for the whole chain before shifting survivors within barrier-separated column segments. Across settled, current, and preview blocks, the capacities are five bombs including Mega Bombs, three Bomb Activators, ten Stone Covers, and ten Ice Covers.
Row-based scoring
One cleared row awards 1 point, two rows award 4, three award 12, and four or more award 24. The displayed multiplier rises with the number of rows in the pass, but it does not multiply those awards.
This makes simultaneous clears valuable, while survival still depends on maintaining a surface that future shapes can use.
Useful Retris habits
- Keep the board broadly level; deep narrow holes accept very few shapes.
- Preserve at least one route into any gap you postpone.
- Look beyond the lowest placement. A piece one row higher may avoid creating an enclosed cavity.
- In Arcade, complete rows that contain bombs when their axes or colors can reach enclosed holes; the delayed collapse preserves the board while the chain unfolds.
- Crazy shapes need preparation. Leave broad landing areas before the larger silhouettes arrive.
Common questions
Do colors need to match?
No. A complete row clears regardless of its colors.
Can several rows clear together?
Yes. Every complete row found after the placement is removed in the same pass.
What changes in Crazy?
Four additional shapes are available immediately. Row clearing and scoring stay the same.
What does Arcade add?
It keeps Retris placement, row scoring and Classic-sized field, while new pieces can carry layered Arcade Specials that a completed row can strike.
